Our Vision
The Mountain Man Memorial March will become the premier Gold Star Family event in the Southeast United States, and provide a venue for organizations and individuals to honor and support Gold Star Families through volunteer service and financial contributions.
- The number of Gold Star Families participating in the event has grown from 1 in 2008 to over 35 in 2011. This year word of the event will be spread to over 1,000 Gold Star Families through the Army’s Survivor Outreach Service network. Our goal is to honor 500 Gold Star Families by 2014.
- Fundraising in 2011-2012 is focused on building the infrastructure of the event and providing support for Gold Star Families in the form of reduced rates for lodging, food, and local transportation. As the number of Gold Star Families grows, so do the costs associated with hosting them. Our goal is to provide free lodging, food, and local transportation to participating Gold Star Families by 2012.
- The ultimate fundraising goal is the establishment of a scholarship program or programs that honor Gold Star Families by providing annual awards of $1000 to five college-bound children of our Fallen Comrades by 2014. We are currently exploring options that include the establishment of an endowment and partnerships with local businesses and private donors.
